The birth of a home office

The year 2002 was a challenging and difficult one for Alex and myself.
We ended our restaurant business for 2 years and it left us almost penniless plus a string of debts. I never felt so low in my career and would resent occasionally for falling in this plight.
But as I moved on with my life and looked forward, God never fails. I've been a Christian since I was 15 so naturally I would get down on my knees and pray.
I recall the lyrics of a song which says, 'When God closes a door, He opens a window.' In 2003, I attended a networking meeting in Hong Kong and this trip led to the beginning of a breakthrough for my career.
I met Ron Kaufman, an inspirational and powerful speaker who specialises in the area of customer service. It was no coincidence that I saw his book in a local bookstore the day before I left for Hong Kong. I didn't know where the guts was from but I went up to him and asked if I could organise an event for him in Kuala Lumpur.
To cut the story short, a home office to organise a public seminar with Ron Kaufman was in the making. Did I have any experience in seminar business then? NO! Alex and myself took on by faith and did all we can to make the event a successful one.
A miracle took place for us when we packed the entire ballroom with more than 1,000 business people on that 9 October 2003 morning. It was chaotic, stressful, nerve-wrecking, scary, exciting and rewarding! It was such a fantastic event which marked a great start for Synergy Entire.
Since, we had worked with several key business authorities - The renowned marketing strategist, Jack Trout, Power Negotiator, Roger Dawson, Branding and Marketing experts, Al and Laura Ries. And we continue to organise events with Ron on a yearly basis since.
Well, looking back, it is a dream come true for me to have a home office. This is a road of no return especially when I became mum to Clayton in Oct 2004.
The ability to work from home has been so liberating. It is such a joy and blessing to watch Clayton grow though the challenges are obvious. I still find myself struggling on some days but the best thing to do is to take one day at a time.
