I stumbled upon whoopeekiddies.com one day while searching the Net for online children's Mandarin books. The range of products found here amazed me and I was attracted almost immediately by the wide selection of bilingual books available.
I am a fan of California baby products so was naturally drawn to the other natural and chemical-free skin care products that Whoopeekiddies stock. Without any hesitation, I ordered some products online and contacted the owner to check on overseas delivery details. It was my first time meeting Yee Ling then when she graciously made special arrangements to deliver the products personally during one of my trips to Singapore.
Whoopeekiddies stock thousands of books, some of which you may not even find in the local bookstores. Range of products include California Baby, Burt's bees (my favourite!), Badger Balm and more.
I wrote to her recently and asked if she would share her story...
Whoopeekiddies Pte Ltd is owned and operated by 2 ladies. We are not
exactly WAHM now that the children are bigger. Of course we are their sole
caretakers on weekends hence you will see/hear very little of us on
weekends.
Whoopeekiddies started out when Kath's son was born and she finds a
lacking of good children books in the market. I expanded the line to
include cloth diapers and natural products due to the needs of my children
all of whom have very sensitive skin. We are still searching for more
products that are both natural and affordable.
I did stop work for a period of time to take care of my children as their
needs are louder than the rice bowl. It was hectic but very fulfilling.
You will find the relationship more enriching and the children closer and
better behaved. I am still finding ways to narrow the gap between me and
my #1 who was taken care by MIL, maid and childcare. #3 solely looked
after by me for the first year is very close to my heart. Yes I would
advise if possible to ditch the ricebowl for every child's first
foundation year, breastfeed and you will find great rewards in years to
come.
Owning an online store is not simple, there are lots of backend work and
sacrifice needed but allows for flexibility of time and time with the
children. Luckily most customers are friendly and understanding in our
occasional lack of response. (by Yee Ling)
