Need for a time out
How many of us who work from home get a ‘time out’ on a regular basis? I don’t. And I love to.
I have a sole caregiver to Clayton for the last 27 months and I’m thankful for that. Working from home allows me to provide extended breastfeeding with great success and despite those stressful, tired, sleep deprived and lonely days, I still wouldn’t trade this blessing for the world! But I do miss some ‘time out’ days where I would go shopping, have a nice and relax lunch with a good friend and simply chill out over a drink at a bar.
Well, don’t get me wrong. I can go ahead and do these things while leaving Clayton to my other half (he’s a home office man!). But I can never do that with great peace of mind. Most of you who are mothers know what I’m talking about. On many occasions, I’m always driving at the fastest speed to get home if my facial or massage session ends late. Or I’ll be gobbling my lunch in 10mins just so that I can get home soon enough!
Some days, I fight with time to finish my list of tasks in my head while squeezing some quality time for Clayton. This balancing act will continue until Clayton grows bigger and starts his playgroup. There is this guilt about sending him to a half day playgroup at this young age but on the other hand, it may not be fair keeping him at home, while his toddler’s needs are not met.
What I have learnt since running a home office is to take it one day at a time. Setting goals and staying focus help to take me through during those ‘wanna quit’ days. Being involved in a support group or quality forums and discussion boards grant me the inner strength to carry on this wonderful journey of being a home office woman.
