Which forums do you belong to?

Posted on January 23, 2007 by dc

I discovered many good blogs in the last few weeks. Being a newbie in blogging, I am learning from others – how they write, what tools they use, tips and advices. Often times, the knowledge I gathered from the blog-o-sphere is more than a book can teach. One of the blogs I truly enjoy is Essential Keystrokes by Char.

There is always something to learn here with Char. I was reading about her post on the power of forums and I couldn’t agree more with her that joining forums (or discussion boards) is not about attaching your signature and generating more traffic to your sites. The attitude towards forums should be to “connect with individuals with like interests or goals”. Joining a forum is a wonderful way to build relationships and learn from one another. It is to share your experience and help others too. Quoting what Char has pointed out, you should take time to find a forum of your passion and interest, and it may take some time before you find the right one.

Be generous in sharing your experience and believe in the concept of paying forward. Think of it as a circle of life, what goes around, comes around. Relationship building requires efforts and a good way to do this is to participate in a conversation other members have started.

If you don’t know where to begin, check out the forum at momgadget, a place where professional bloggers share their secrets! And for a parenting and breastfeeding forum, check out mymomsbest.
Do you have a forum to recommend? Please share it here.

I run a pregnancy, parenting and trying to conceive forum called Baby Talkers. It is a place for moms and moms-to-be to connect with one another and share experiences, tips, tricks and advice. I have been involved with the creation of quite a few forums and what Char said was so true. It definitely may take time to find the right one. Once you do , it becomes your online home. When you can’t wait to see if anyone has responded to you and when you can’t wait to log on to see what everyone is up to, I think it is safe to say, that you have found The One. :)

Thanks for dropping by. I’ll be checking the forum! Doris
