Do you know the value of your time?
The elance job was awarded. This has been an interesting and exciting experience for my husband. It’s his first time listing a job at elance and at the end of 3 days, he received 19 bids. Finally, he awarded the job to an elancer from Pakistan, this guy who completed the job before being commissioned. His initiative won him the job.
This experience led me to consider the value of your time and mine. Do you spend a lot of time trying to accomplish a job that you don’t have the skills for? Or would you consider outsourcing it to an expert in his/her field. Recently, I outsourced my blog headers to a web designer. Friends asked me why didn’t I do the job myself since I am a graphic designer. I told them that I wouldn’t bother with figuring out those scripts and HTML stuff that I wasn’t familiar with. And you know what? I’ve already got my first header completed, a task that would probably take me a week to complete!
I would think that the value of my time far exceeds the outsourcing costs for the blog headers. Do you know the value of your time?

February 5th, 2007 at 6:55 pmI, personally, always hire someone who is more skilled than I at something if I can afford it. Since I have always been a consultant and have always kept a timesheet, I do this as a freelancer as well and know exactly what my time is worth. So, it makes life’s decisions a bit easier at times.
