Home Office Distractions 2

Posted on April 30, 2007 by dc

ImageChef.com - Create custom images I enjoy working from home but sometimes, one of the biggest challenges is the number of distractions that can take my focus off my work and prevent me from achieving my objectives.

Many of us may agree that it is easy to get distracted from work when working from home, especially if it is work that you do not particularly enjoy like cold calling or telesales. Reading a magazine, snacking, watching TV or even doing laundry are common distractions and, if you have young children, the number of distractions increases dramatically.

Our son’s new room 5

Posted on April 29, 2007 by dc

OK… today, we put in the new furniture. While DH did his part in assembling the shelving unit, table and chair, I was left to do all the packing and reorganizing for the ’special guy’ in this house.

Who says print has turned obsolete? Dating back to the early 90s, there were articles, news and write-ups that print will be overtaken by digital and consumers will discard the traditional method of reading, turning from print to digital. But has this speculation been true?

Moving Clayton OUT of our home office (finally!) 0

Posted on April 28, 2007 by dc

It had been a busy weekend. Our goal for this weekend is to transform the current guest’s room into Clayton’s room. DH had finally broke out from this procrastinating spirit as he had enough of a messy home office :)

We spent a few hours shopping at Ikea for Clayton’s table and chair, a set of storage shelves, boxes, a nice activity rug and another shelving unit for the backyard. Once we got home, DH and myself were busy shifting the table out of the room, threw away all the clutter, cleared up the mess and finally, we both got rid of our old computers.

It was very sentimental for me when I discarded my old Macintosh Quadra 650. This was my first Mac bought it in 2001 when I started my own design company and it had served me well for 10 good years! I felt sad about discarding yet I knew it was time to say good bye. I realized that some old things just gotta go before the new can take its place.

We spent the entire day clearing up and by the time we finished, we were dead beat and were too tired to assemble Clayton’s new furniture.

My blogging buddy at Dark Circles Blog 0

Posted on April 28, 2007 by dc

This post goes to my blogging buddy who writes a niche blog on Darr Eyesk Circle Unde, a topic we can ALL identify with but do not take much efforts to find out more about it. Personally, dark circles did bother me when I was in my early adulthood. Those late nights of beating deadline as a graphic designer and no-sleep days were common and had seemed to worsen these ’shadow’ under my eyes.

It gets me thinking and reflecting for a whle and I actually have to ask myself ‘what helps me stay productive’?

How do you manage your employees? 0

Posted on April 27, 2007 by dc

In my earlier post, I mentioned that we have newly employed a staff to be part of our team. Come next week, we will be inviting another two persons to join us on another project. With a few staff in our payroll from now on, we need to consider a reliable and efficient employee evaluation software to help us manage, evaluate and track their performance. Being a small business owner, we need something that is easy to use, effective and most importantly, one that offers goal setting solutions.

If anyone has an experience to share in this aspect, I’ll be pleased to know.

Highlight on mailing lists 3

Posted on April 27, 2007 by dc

I never quite understand the importance of mailing lists until I began my seminar business in 2003.

Over the last few years, a big portion of our marketing budget was spent on direct mailing and being new in the business, we worked with different professional partners to tap on their customers’ database in acquiring mailing lists for our company. We have also learnt that the quality of mailing lists determines the success of the marketing campaign.
