My take on technorati exchanges

I was one of those who got into the Technorati favorites exchange few weeks ago though I wasn’t as ardent as some other bloggers in the blogosphere. Dawud got me thinking when he shared about his blogging goal and what how he felt towards this whole Technorati exchange.

His opinions on his first post http://dmiracle.com/how-to-blog/yeah-im-in-the-technorati-favorites-top-100-so-what/ sparked another discussion. So I was wondering if this tecnorati favourites had helped to increase your site traffic. And if so, did these visitors come back for more or were they just one-time visitors?

I agree with Dawud that ” The most useful memes are those that benefit everyone involved and your readers first”. Dawud preferred memes that added value to the content of his blog and his readers, not just to increase traffic and links. So I ask myself, “what is my objective in participating in memes”? See, I’m a newcomer to blogging so increasing links and traffic are important to me. But I, too, want a deeper purpose in doing this, to engage my readers, so that they can take something out of my blog. It may be related to business, internet marketing, personal, marketing or leisure, but I must contribute something valuable. It doesn’t need to be complex, profound or revolutionary, but I’d like to share a valuable or useful piece of information.

What about you? Did you benefit from this Technorati Exchange? Is the effort align with your blogging goal? If you haven’t given much thought to it, maybe it’s time to start now. This is just the beginning for me…

For me, it did increase my traffic - which is a good thing. I just felt it did so at the expense of the goal of my blog. That’s why I spent some time writing about it.

The interesting thing is how many people spoke up and said that because of the meme they’re now reading my blog. That’s an unexpected result, truthfully because I found only one other blog myself that I wanted to read - which I’ve sinced dropped from my reader.

So I’m certainly grateful for these new readers. But I don’t want to use these type of memes anymore to try to increase traffic.

    Thanks for the mention.

I participated in one 3-4 months ago. I got an initial surge of traffic, but that was it.
