It's time for another HOW feature (home office women feature). This is a special feature of home office women as well as entrepreneurs. Many of you may know that I also write a health blog and love all things natural and organic. Some months ago, I became an affiliate of LoveLula.com, an online store specializing on organic beauty and skincare products. Today, I am privileged to feature the founder of this wonderful site... from the desk of Lula Lewis, here is her story. Please read on...
I had lots of reasons for starting LoveLula including a passion for and background in natural products and 'clean' beauty and a desire to work for
myself and do something creative after spending many years working for large corporate organisations. I also wanted to create a business that would work around family life as I felt that the pressures of commuting and office politics weren't something I wanted to be juggling with raising children.
The business has evolved slowly over a number of years. First came an idea and some brain storming, then a business plan and some time spent getting the funding together then the launch and lots of hard work! Because of my desire to create a work environment that was family friendly I initially launched the business at home but this soon became impractical because of the amount of space LoveLula needed. I also found it really hard to switch off from work as it was always surrounding me! So after a few months we moved to an office nearby. I now have a 4 mile commute to work through a beautiful forest and countryside and it raises my spirits rather than flattens them which the London tube used to do!!
I have never worked so hard in my life but I absolutely love every minute of my new career and it has helped to create a life I truly love. Everyday is different; sometimes I'll be researching online marketing techniques, other days working with graphic designers and photographers or talking to journalists and sometimes refining the processes of the business to improve our service.
I love working in an online business - it is an exciting new frontier full of possibility. My advice to anyone thinking about doing an online business would be to go for it...although you need to be persistent and really believe in your vision...it can take a little while to get it off the
ground!!
