Dressing strategy that influences
I used to think that image consulting is all about helping you look good, poised and beautiful but was I wrong…
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend a Dressing Strategy workshop involving a session to learn more about colours and style. I never knew the power of colours on our physical appearance and its affect in our perceived behaviour by those around us. I was observing the workshop in preparation for an event I would be planning in October with image and colour consultant, Jill Lowe. With 18 top management men sitting in the room, the session was an eye opener for me.
Never had I thought that black coats and blue coats could present a different message in a business negotiation or sales presentation. And an interesting thing was we judged a person by the colours he or she wore on that day. Some colours you wore could influence children to like you and some colours could indicate hostility and unfriendliness. Interesting!
Being a workshop tailored specially for the men, I learnt that different coloured ties on different shirts can also present an unexpected message among your corporate peers. Basically the methodologies suggest that we all have a set of colours that are represented by the 4 seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter. For instance, a spring person will look great with cool shades for a top whereas an autumn person will looks terrible in those cool tones. Wearing a black coat can cause you to lose votes for a presidential election if black doesn’t bring out the approachable persona in you.
I am all excited about what I’m learning. In 3 months’ time, I will be organizing a workshop on Image Asset Management for corporate womenl, focusing on dressing strategy for corporate success. I look forward to share more with you.

I sure could use some pointers like that. In business, you need to not only be the part, but also look the part.
Definitely!
