the big business of television commercials
It is undeniable that television commercials are indeed big business. It’s the most influential myth making and personalizing type of advertisement. A thirty-to sixty-second TV commercial is a very essential part of a network television’s programming; its impact could be compared to that of the filters of drama, personality, and home.
Like any other form of commercial, television commercials create “images” in the minds of consumers and endorse products; however, it does more than simply that. Today, powerful television commercials can also make folk heroes, as well as renew the careers of previous celebrities. Although a lot of television commercials would usually involve a popular artist to catch the viewer’s attentions, some of the most successful TV commercials have also been on the basis of captivating the hearts of its audience through the aura of family, patriotism, humor, winning, and fun. And usually, a good voice over talent is necessary to convey the advertising message effectively to the target audience. Imagine watching a product commercial with a boring and monotonous voice over, would you sit and listen? On the other hand, you will stop what you are doing and listen up when a lively and cheerful voice comes through a TV commercial. We respond to different pitches and tones, and often times, these voices trigger the emotions within us.
Television commercials have done more than just endorsing products, they have influenced us in our cultural beliefs and values, making it one of the most efficient ways of advertising.

I just wrote a blog about this same topic today http://www.unboundedition.com/content/view/2478/50/. How commercials if done properly can be so impactful and really connect with the viewer. I took the stance that the music in the commercial is what makes it truly stand out. After Volkswagen featured Nick Drake’s Pink Moon in one of their Cabriolet commercials his popularity soared. To this day I still want a Cabriolet just because of that commercial.
Great article.
Thanks! I like a Cabriolet too!
