Well, the only thing I know about Amazon.com is that it sells 1,001 things since this is the place where I shop for hard-to-find books, baby care products, skincare, apparel...etc. But this afternoon, I found out that I could actually store up to 10,000 documents at Amazon.com's Simple Storage Service (S3) at only 15 cents per gig per month and 10 to 18 cents per gig for data transfer and what's best is that you only need to pay for what you used, plus there won't be any minimum monthly fee.
I persuaded my hubby (DH) to try out Bucket Explorer, the Software for Amazon S3 since it is only compatible with Windows and Linux. I'm a Mac user so DH is the ideal person to tell me what he thinks. Besides, he uploads files for our company's website most of time and that is exactly what Bucket Explorer can do. Basically, Bucket Explorer helps to store buckets of data in Amazon S3, buckets mean folders. So with this user interface software, you can upload and download files, browse buckets and your data stored in Amazon S3, upload files in HTML format and more! According to DH, he found that Bucket Explorer presented more options than the current uploading software he was using. Though it took him some time to navigate his way around, it wasn't long that he was able to view data, upload files for web hosting and browse his documents. You can set access permissions and decide who can access the data. The user interface may look a little complicated for the beginner but for those who know the basics of file transfer, Bucket Explorer is easy to master.
What is great is that you can now try it out for FREE til 31 December 2007. After that, it will be priced at $29.99 per user but if you take the time to provide valuable feedback, you will be granted the license key to use it for FREE.
