the reward of parenting

Posted on November 16, 2007 by dc

Clayton is at a fun age where he can sit down and chat with me like a young friend and that is nice. I’m still facing lots of challenges with toilet training and getting him to stop pulling the HDMI cables in the living room. The comforting thing is he’s a great eater and loves reading. DH was impressed that he could recite his chinese proverbs, a real achievement for a three year old. Though it’s still tough getting him to stay away from our home office, he’s added so much meaning in our lives. That’s the reward of parenting. I will always remember what an old friend said in his email to me yesterday:

“…money, career success really means nothing without anyone to share with”

I’m not sure where the cables are that your baby is yanking on, but (as ugly as it is) I have found that if you can tape them to the floor with duct tape they are much less tempting than when they are lying loose. Why are cords and cables so much more attractive to babies than their own colorful toys?

    Thanks for your tip, Jan!
