we are finally in waikiki!
Finally, we are onboard of the Pride of America and since the internet connection is unstable and slower than expected, I gotta keep this post short and sweet.
Our first port of call is the Big Island in the little and sleep town of Hilo. I must stress that the seas had been rough on the first night and we had an early sleep to overcome seasickness. The town of Hilo is like what the travel guide says – sleepy, rainy and gloomy. Nevertheless, we booked for a shore excursion to the Volcanoes National Park. Hilo has no Condo Hotels or luxurious apartments like Waikiki. You can tell that it is an old town with a slower pace on a first glance.
Rainbow Falls was not as spectacular when the sun was not present and it was infact very muddy and gloomy. A visit to the Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory seemed like the usual tourist stop for some souvenirs for the folks back home.
While I may not elaborate much in this post about the Volcanoes National Park, I must admit that it was a wonderful experience walking on an active volcano! Til then, until the internet connection is faster, I will post another update.
