our toilet training journey
After all that traveling in the last week during Chinese New Year, I’m happy to be back to the regular routine. I’m so thankful that Clayton’s toilet training has been very smooth despite our busy traveling schedule and he’s infact almost 95% toilet trained now – thank God!
I’ve ordered a traveling potty for him from Amazon and hoping to get it soon since our public toilets in M’sia can be quite filthy. It’s amazing that Clayton is now three and he’s talking better by the day. At this age, we are getting more party invitations from his classmates and this reminds us that he’s a big boy now! Party packs bring lots of cheer to these kiddies and in no time, he would be wearing his first graduation hat!
The truth was this whole toilet training journey wasn’t that easy when I started him last year. Looking back, I realized that I wasn’t ready at all to toilet train him even though I had the pleasure of working from home. In fact, it was stressful to clean up accidents when I was popping in and out of the home office and that was why I never succeeded in toilet training him. In fact, I got angry and upset over his accidents and my bad attitude brought fear into him which in turn delayed the toilet training process.
From these lessons, I come to understand that the success of a toilet training journey requires the readiness of both mom and child and like what Elizabeth Pantley says in her book, ‘No cry potty training solution’, the two magic ingredients are good attitude and lots of patience and understanding. With these two virtues, you are on the way to success.

I can’t believe that your son is almost 3 years old. Have we known each other online THAT long?
I’m currently in the process of trying to potty train Kinsley. She’s 2 now and is interested, just doesn’t want to do it. lol
I have a Dora potty chair all set up for her and we talk about it, and she tries it out. She just doesn’t stay on it long enough to succeed.
She does love running around the house nude though so I guess that’s cute!
Oh ya.. time flies huh… Clayton was one when I knew you online (i think). I’m glad he’s now 95% toilet trained… now, I have to run for toilets when he yells ‘I want to pee pee!’
