potty training – month four
I’m in month four of potty training and this journey is definitely teaching me to be more patient as a parent and teacher. I have read all about explaining to my toddler about the toilet and how the potty works and letting him try flushing himself. I explained to him that he will be wearing underwear and not diapers. Somehow, it’s a three steps forward and two steps backward experience. Clayton was doing great for the first two months with minimal accidents until the third month, where he seemed to get complacent over his successes and started having more accidents. I was furious, upset and disappointed. Yet, I know that this is a process not to be rushed and that I should be more understanding, patient and forgiving. Maybe some parents had an easier time but for me, it’s tiring and I’m worried about cleaning up accidents just like today. Once again, I’m reminding myself to be patient and calm and trust that very soon, with consistency, encouragement and praise, he’ll soon be completely trained.
