Does technology allows or hinders you to earn money from home?
Unlike the old days, technology has made it easier to people to earn money from home in the 21st century. Due to this, we tend to depend on technology to conduct our home business and a little hiccup can cause chaos and frustration to our online business.
This hasn’t been a great week for us in the home office as far as the internet connection is concerned. Since we work from home, we spent most of our time in front of our laptops and the disruption in the internet service can affect our productivity greatly. I haven’t been able to load my niche sites and research pages. I can’t FTP smoothly neither can I upload my photos for my affiliate stores as quickly as I want. I was telling DH that if we want to earn money from home, we need to consider other options. But sadly, we are limited by the lack of quality internet service providers at this moment.
On the personal end, I took a break from my home office yesterday and headed for my Pilates class. I had an awesome workout and it was something I enjoyed as a work at home mom. With Pilates, I won’t have to worry about weight loss or taking any appetite suppressant. As much as I want to build a successful home business and earn money from home, I also desire to work towards a healthier body in 2009. With the weekends leading up, it’s time slow things down in the home office and spend some quality time with the family.

Over the last couple of weeks, I had completed two affiliate stores and now, it’s the time to work on them. I’ve been reading blogs of those who earn money from home to gain encouragement and inspiration. I have to tell you that life as a work at home mom is not a bed or roses. Nevertheless, it’s a decision I have made and I’m sticking to it!
In the past, I spent most of my time updating my home office blog and my list of other blog sites. Then I forget that I need to work on bringing visitors to my niche sites if I want my home office business to grow and increase in profitability. That’s the reason why I have been spending time on building backlinks via article submission and keyword optimization.
Like it or not, a small investment may be needed if you are serious about earning money from home – just like any off line business. There are many internet marketers who will tell you all you need is a domain and hosting and with free blogging platform, there is no hosting costs. But what they didn’t tell you is that this method may take years before you can see some traffic coming in or some adsense clicks to your niche blog or site.
Lately, I have invested in a few back linking strategies (see my right sidebar icons for reference) and I’m seeing couple of my niche sites ranking well on SERPs. So instead of spending 80% of my home office time on writing, I’m adjusting my priorities. I use majority of my time on back linking for my affiliate stores and niche sites and the rest of my time on writing and researching.
On the weekends, I focus on spending time with my growing preschooler who is active, curious and fun. We set lizard and spider traps around the house to keep those pests away and do fun things like painting and stenciling together. Basically I stop my work at home duties on the weekends and focus on parenting and family time.
Yes, all of us like to earn money from home but let me remind you that building an online business takes weeks, months and even years. Don’t expect success overnight and don’t be fooled by internet marketing hype and talk that you can earn five figure in one month. This is baloney – absolute baloney.
