They say that “The family that eats together stays together”. Here’s another one, “The family that plays together stays together”. Personally, I agree to these statements and I believe many work at home moms and dads do too. If your family matters to you, then it makes sense to spend quality time with them – as much as you can, in small and big ways.
To get started, you can started planning for one night a week where everyone will be home. How about some board games fun where the family can enjoy together? You can play everything from Monopoly to Snakes and Ladders depending on the ages of the children. Lately, we’ve been playing a few family games together when our son gets home from school – Boggle, Scrabble, Monopoly, Dominoes, Uno and his favourite, Snake and Ladder.
Sometimes, you can do something different and make some crafts together. For a change, go out as a family on late night shopping days or enjoy a good movie and have a laugh together. These precious moments will be treasured in years to come! With technology advancement, having a game on the playstation can be fun too as long as it encourages family members participation. Kids are so into these sort of things now that they are more familiar with video card and all the gadgets than the adults! Another great idea is to cook or bake a cake together and let everyone be part of the process.
In anything that you do, make it fun. The very fact that you work at home means that you can adjust your time and schedule these play times into your priorities list. Your children may not remember or thank you for all the hours you put but they will always cherish your presence and the family time.
