Every morning, when I opened my mailbox, I am greeted by lots of automated emails from internet marketers. Everyone is trying to sell me something and most of these internet marketers are working at home in their pjs.

We started working from home since 2003 and it wasn’t any online business at that time. It was only much later that we started to explore the online business that the home office was becoming busier. Since, we have been running few businesses from home and it has proven that home business does work. But I know that not everyone like working at home. Some prefer to be out there mingling, networking and interacting with others. They prefer to dress up early in the morning, catch breakfast with colleagues and lunch out with clients. The truth is, whether you are an internet marketer, a businesswomen or Mesothelioma lawyer, you can make your home a working office, if that’s your preference.

Knowing that we enjoy this working environment, we shall continue to build a home office space when we move down under. The nice thing about having a home office in Australia is that it is tax deductible! That means, all equipment including computers, printers, tables and chairs can be submitted for tax relief. I need to find more the mechanics of it soon.

This will be another busy week of clearing, packing and trashing out the clutter. We are leaving the home office to the last for clearance and I know it’s time for a good spring clean. When is the last time you do a spring cleaning for your home office?

Many of us know that a good posture is important for our spine health. Yet, we don’t pay much attention to sitting upright and getting our computer at the right eye level when we are working in the home office.

I’ve never really bothered with posture issues until I started my pilates classes. Pilates is good for me as it helps to have more body awareness and I’m more careful with the way I sit and walk. Sometimes we get too tired up with work and other chores that we tend to take our health for granted. As we are preparing for our move, I’ve insisted on an adjustable working table and chair. I mean, if I’m going to work in the home office for more than six hours a day, there are many reasons why I should invest in a set of ergonomic table and chair. I found a few brands in the marketplace but they are rather expensive. Sitting upright reminds me of my equestrian classes where I’m constantly trained to maintain a certain position.

If you are shopping for home office table and chair that are ergonomic, MOLL is good and it comes with a heavy price tag. Another cheaper version of that would the Taiwan made ones from Kids2Youth. They are ergonomically designed with the environmental in mind.

Finding a space for your home office will depend on the type of work you want to accomplish. If you need to be on the phone during the day, you can set up a computer desk with file storage in the living or dining room, which are usually quiet during the day.

Once you have chosen the best area, consider putting up wall shelves to save space on your flat desk surface. Also think about using a laptop or one of the new “miniature” computers with a thin flat screen monitor. More space can be created by attaching the house phone to the wall or using your computer to make phone calls, eliminating the need for a phone on your desk.

Plan your home office carefully. The right equipment and office furniture will save you time, effort, and money, not to mention back or wrist pain. According to a recent survey, nearly 75% of home business owners didnít have a designated room for their home office with the right office furniture. The most important choices involve the computer desk, an office chair, storage and lighting.

A computer desk is the keystone of your home office. Nowadays, new computer desks come with many space-saving features and enough built-in storage to transform a small space in your apartment or house into a convenient and productive office space. I spotted an adjustable desk for my new home office while shopping for my hubby’s blackheads treatment. If you are unsure of what sort of computer desk to have, a corner computer desk can be easily accommodated in almost any room. The style of desk you choose depends on the type of work you do. If you have to work with papers, the right computer desk will give you enough room for your computer and keyboard as well as sufficient flat surface for paperwork.

For additional flat surfaces, consider adding an extra wing or curve to your desk in your home office. If you often use books, binders or thick heavy manuals, you may choose a computer desk with a hutch for shelving or closed cabinet space for easy access to printed materials and office supplies without losing any of the valuable flat surfaces.

When a child at home is ill, the work at home mom tends to get less sleep and disrupted work flow in the office. It’s happening to me now and it doesn’t help when I’m recovering from a cold. I have had much sleep in the last two nights and it’s tiring nursing a sick child. Somehow work at home moms tend to get so used to the children being in school all day that when they skip school for a day or two, things can be a little disorganized in the home office. My priority is to help him get well soon and shower him with loads of tender loving care. It brings me relief to see his bubbly nature.

Back in the home office, I’ve slowed down since returning from our vacations and placing more focus on the packing for our move. My hubby has impressed me with his efforts in clearing the store room within one afternoon and I can feel an instant relief when that was done. I’m doing my part in packing my son’s room and mine and now, the house is in a mess. The home office will be last in the list since we’ll be working in the next two remaining months. With this busy schedule, I need more vitamin C, A, chromium supplements, enzyme and lots of fresh foods to keep me going!

It’s so important for all work at home moms to look after their bodies as we have so many responsibilities and tasks to accomplish. Also, make sure you get enough rest and sleep for it’s so important to be recharged for greater tasks ahead.

Home office women are often busy with two things – parenting and work and if you have no kids or if your kids have grown up, it would be errands and work.

I just got back from my Asia vacations and finally settled back in the home office. There are lots to be done as we prepare for our move in two and half months time. I miss catching up with my close friends over in Singapore and only wish I have more time to spend at ‘home’. Though I’ve lived overseas for almost 11 years, I always like my home town and reckon it’s the best in Asia!

In a month’s time, I’ll be meeting a close friend who lives in Kota Kinabalu and she’s been busy tailoring prom dresses for her teengage daughter. We have come a long way and she too used to be a work at home mom who had a fashion design studio. I miss her dresses and tailoring!

With more time in the home office, I’m clearing some back log work and I would need to start packing up for the move.
